Privacy Policy
Modsmith is an independent software project developed by Arane, the developer’s public name (“we”, “us”). This policy describes information handled in connection with the Modsmith website and correspondence with the project. Privacy questions can be sent to legal@modsmith.app.
Current status. The website presents an application in development. There is no public application download, account registration, checkout or live Smith AI service. The interactive examples run in your browser and do not send prompts to an AI model. Descriptions of future services below do not mean those services are processing your data now.
1. Visiting the website
The site is delivered through Cloudflare. A page request exposes ordinary connection information to the host, including your IP address, requested address, request time and browser information. Hosting and security services process this information to deliver the site, diagnose delivery problems and protect against abuse. This is separate from advertising or behavioural analytics.
We have not added analytics scripts, advertising trackers, embedded social widgets or marketing cookies. Fonts, images and scripts are served with the site. Cloudflare may use necessary security cookies or challenge mechanisms. Its handling of request data is described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
The FAQ search and interactive illustrations work locally on the page. Their contents are not submitted to us. Following an external link takes you to a service governed by its own policy.
2. Contacting us
If you send us an email, we receive the sender address, message and attachments you choose to include, together with ordinary email metadata. We use them to answer the request, investigate a reported problem and keep necessary records. Email delivery providers also process the correspondence.
Only send information needed for the request. Review logs and screenshots first; they may contain personal paths, mod names or other private information. Do not send passwords, API keys, session tokens, full payment-card details or game files you do not have permission to share.
3. Data in development builds
The desktop manager stores its library, configuration, deployment journal, backups and application logs locally, in its data folder or a library location selected by the user. Credentials supported by the development build use Windows-protected local storage. This website has no access to those files and does not upload them.
Local management is distinct from network features. Nexus integration contacts Nexus using the user’s own credentials; masterlist and update checks contact their respective hosts. Those services see the requests they receive. A local-first design does not mean the application makes no network requests.
Logs are intended to redact recognised personal paths, but automatic redaction cannot identify all private information in names or free text. No log-upload form or automatic diagnostic upload is provided by this website. Keep deployment journals and backups until you no longer need them for recovery.
4. Before accounts, payments or cloud AI launch
These services are not currently offered. Supabase is planned for accounts and Xsolla is the intended payment partner, subject to confirmation. Neither is integrated into this website. Anthropic, Google and OpenAI models are planned for Smith; the site sends them no requests.
Before enabling a service, we will publish the actual operator and provider details, categories of data, purposes, applicable legal bases, retention rules and transfer arrangements. The request and checkout screens will provide the information relevant to that action. Visiting this site does not consent to future AI processing, marketing or a paid subscription.
AI tasks need different inputs. A crash diagnosis may use parsed log fields and plugin names; translation needs text; build planning needs relevant setup information and the user’s description. The service-specific policy will explain storage, caching and provider use before requests are enabled.
5. Purposes and legal bases
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, website delivery, proportionate security measures and handling general correspondence rely on legitimate interests in operating a reliable site and responding to enquiries, balanced against your rights. Handling a specific request you make before entering a contract may be necessary to take those steps. Records required by law are handled to comply with that obligation.
Where consent is required for a new purpose, it will be requested separately. You can withdraw consent for future processing without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
6. Recipients and international processing
Hosting and communication providers receive information needed to deliver their services. We may also disclose information when required by law, to establish or defend legal claims, or where necessary to address fraud or a security incident. A transfer of the project may include necessary business records, subject to applicable law and the purposes described here.
Cloudflare operates a global network, so requests may be processed outside your country. Provider arrangements determine where processing occurs. Transfers remain subject to applicable data-protection law. Transfer details for future account and AI services will be provided before those services open.
7. Retention
Hosting and security records are subject to the provider’s applicable retention arrangements. We do not promise a fixed deletion period for records controlled by the host.
We keep correspondence while it is needed to answer and follow up on the request, then only for as long as necessary for related legal obligations, security incidents or claims. Retention depends on whether the matter is resolved, whether follow-up is reasonably expected, and whether a legal duty or dispute applies. We do not retain correspondence for unrelated marketing.
Data held only in a desktop installation remains under the user’s control. We cannot recover a deleted local library or backup. There are currently no public account or AI-request records to delete from a Modsmith service.
8. Your rights
Depending on the law that applies, you may request access, correction, deletion, portability or restriction of your personal data, object to certain processing, withdraw consent, and complain to the relevant data-protection authority. Applicable non-discrimination protections also remain in place. These rights have legal conditions and exceptions, including necessary record retention.
Send a request to legal@modsmith.app, identifying the interaction it concerns. We may ask for proportionate information to verify the request and will respond within the period required by applicable law. We do not need a copy of your game library to handle a privacy request.
9. Security and children
The website is served over HTTPS and uses browser security headers. These measures reduce risk; no online service is guaranteed to be secure. Where notification of a personal-data breach is legally required, we will follow that requirement.
The project is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us, contact us so that we can assess and address it.
10. Policy changes
We may update this policy as the project changes, with a new version and effective date. Material changes will be highlighted on the website and, where we have an established contact channel and the law requires it, notified directly. Changes do not retroactively create consent or remove rights that applied when data was collected. A new purpose requiring consent will require a new choice.
